About IBClay & Company

An economics-led institution built to serve organisations facing their most consequential decisions — with the rigour, depth, and analytical honesty their decisions deserve.

IBClay & Company is not a consulting practice. It is an institution in formation — built on the conviction that rigorous economic thinking, applied with discipline and care, can transform any organisation and, through it, contribute to the prosperity of the economy and the people it serves.

IBClay & Company was founded in Nairobi, Kenya, with the explicit ambition of becoming the defining advisory institution of its generation on the African continent. The firm serves organisations at every stage of development — from first-year startups to multinational enterprises — with the same standard of intellectual rigour, analytical depth, and commitment to lasting impact.

The core thesis is precise: organisations face decisions with profound economic consequences. The quality of those decisions is determined entirely by the quality of the analysis that informs them. IBClay & Company exists to provide that analysis with a depth and integrated perspective that produces measurable, transformative results — for every client we serve, at every stage of their development.

We are an economics firm first. We apply formal economic analysis — demand modelling, price elasticity, competitive structure, and our proprietary diagnostic frameworks — to every engagement. We do not give advice. We give answers.

Institutional Mandate

Mission. Vision. Purpose.

Mission

To serve our clients with distinction by bringing rigorous economic thinking, proprietary analytical frameworks, and deeply integrated strategic advisory to the decisions that define their future — helping them build stronger organisations that create lasting value for their people, their markets, and the broader economies in which they operate.

Vision

To be the defining economics advisory institution of our generation — trusted by leaders, sought by organisations facing their most consequential decisions, and recognised worldwide for the quality of our thinking, the integrity of our counsel, and the enduring impact of our work on the enterprises and economies we serve.

Purpose

Economics. Insight. Public Good. We believe that every organisation, when guided by rigorous analysis and clear strategic direction, becomes a more powerful engine for prosperity — creating employment, building industries, and raising the standard of living in the communities it touches. That chain of consequence — from a single diagnostic to a measurable improvement in public well-being — is the reason IBClay & Company exists.

Core Values

What IBClay & Company Stands For

Client Impact

Our clients' success is the only measure of our own. Every engagement, every model, every recommendation exists to produce a tangible, lasting outcome. We succeed only when they do.

Intellectual Rigour

We ground every recommendation in economic analysis, empirical evidence, and formal reasoning. We do not guess. We model, test, verify, and stand behind our conclusions.

Exceptional People

We attract, develop, and retain individuals of outstanding intellect, character, and ambition. The quality of our firm can never exceed the quality of the minds within it.

Integrity

We tell our clients what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. Our independence is our credibility. We will walk away from an engagement before we compromise our judgment.

One Firm

We operate as a single, integrated institution. No silos, no territories. Every client engagement draws on the full resources of IBClay & Company.

Enduring Relationships

We build relationships that outlast individual engagements. Our goal is not the next project — it is the next decade of partnership.

Public Good

We believe that stronger organisations produce stronger economies, and stronger economies produce better lives. This conviction is embedded in how we choose our work and how we deliver it.

The Team

Led by Economists. Accountable to Evidence.

IBClay & Company is built around individuals who hold themselves to a single standard: that every finding must be defensible, every recommendation must be grounded in evidence, and every engagement must leave the client stronger.

Innocent B. Clay
Founder & Chief Economist

Innocent B. Clay

Innocent Clay founded IBClay & Company on the conviction that rigorous economic thinking — formally applied — should be accessible to every organisation making a consequential decision, not only those with the budget for a global firm.

He leads every engagement with a first-principles approach: isolate the economic question, build the right model, produce the finding, and translate it into action. His work draws on formal economic analysis, proprietary diagnostic frameworks, and a deep familiarity with the African enterprise context.

The Long View

Building an Institution That Outlasts Any Single Engagement.

IBClay & Company is being built for the long horizon. Every structural decision — from how we price our work to how we recruit our people to how we design our diagnostic methodology — is made with a hundred-year institution in mind.

We are not optimising for the next engagement. We are building the reputation, the methodology, and the institutional character that will make IBClay & Company the first call for any African leader facing a decision that matters — for a generation, and beyond.

That ambition shapes how we work today: with the care, the rigour, and the integrity that every client, every finding, and every recommendation deserves.
